New Year Resolutions

It is customary during the New Year to revisit and dust off the old plans, and set new goals. After all, the New Year implies a new beginning. It is a chance to turn the page and start a new story.  

It is a tale as old as time. We make promises to ourselves, only to not follow through with them a couple of weeks later because there are so many convenient excuses. We cannot escape and are trapped in our own mind, a vicious circle that keeps turning on and on. We channel our energy on counterproductive goal setting activities, which result in meaningless disappointment. However, it does not have to be this way another year. All you have to do, is DO, take the first step and then the second step, focus your mind and infuse your life with ACTION!

Once you resolve to something, COMMIT! Fully and beautifully. You are inspired to change your life for better, whether it is a weight loss, organize, learning a new skill or reconnecting with an old friend. Don't delay something wonderful and begin today, right now! If you want to lead a healthier lifestyle, begin by doing simple exercises while watching TV, incorporate a healthy snack during the workday. Do not just a set a goal, take action at any time during the year, however small it might be. It only takes approximately 30 days to form a new habit. Repetition. Make it happen. Right now, build your own future, with full intention and focused mind.

According to the "Power of Habit" book by Charles Duhigg, a habit consists of three components: Cue, Routine, and Reward.

Cue - a trigger point (identify your trigger points)

Routine - once triggered, we execute with familiarity a set of actions (change your routine, while keeping your eyes on the "prize" or reward)

Reward - outcome (motivating results - toned body, more energy, organized house, etc.)
